Description: Owners of Hernandez MHP AKA Los Gatos MHP refused access Friday to the main power panel in the park, despite an agreement with residents' attorney to do so. Summer is coming soon and residents are concerned the rigged up system will fail again soon without adequate repairs.
Noxious smelling fumes in an around Mecca

Description: CRLA staff and HUD Asst. Secretary Mercedes Marquez drove through Mecca and around Western Environmental (by circling the Cabazon land on which it is situated). All present were affected by the strong petroleum-like odor and a few noted that they could sense the smell / pollution in their mouths.

Two big rigs collided on Grapefruit Boulevard at 62nd Avenue Monday afternoon, spilling oil on the road and blocking all lanes for a time, according to the CHP.
Minor injuries were reported in the 12:52 p.m. crash.
The Riverside County Fire Department's hazmat team was called to clean the fuel and oil spill and the scene was cleared by 4 p.m.

Description: This report from a currently anonymous Elementary School teacher who has suffered extreme sickness suspected source, air pollution. The teacher recently saw a doctor and shared her test results revealing elevated levels of benzene in her blood. Can someone monitor the area for benzene?

Abandoned and vandalized car on the side of Hwy 111

Description: For at least three weeks a car has been sitting abandoned alongside Hwy 111 about three miles South of the Imperial / Riverside County line. Highway patrol ticketed the vehicle about two weeks ago but the car is still there. Recently its windows were broken and it was vandalized.
Pestilence in Mecca

Description: There's a stench of manure and sometimes petroleum coming from the soil-recycling plant called Western Environmental, Inc. It is centrally located off Hwy 86 near Mecca, and so it can be seen from almost every housing development in the community. Residents from different parts of Mecca have reported the nauseating smell, including students and teachers in the community. Many of them have reported nausea, stomach cramps, headaches and disgust. Some of the most affected people have been farm workers who have had to work across the street despite the reek, children at the Migrant Headstart Center, residents from Chapultepec Apartments, Paseo de los Heroes II, Villas Oscar Romero all of them just behind the plant and most of them low income housing.
