The information below was shared with local media this afternoon and we expect some media to attend the media opportunity at 3:15pm this afternoon at Cattle Call in Brawley. Maria Peinado Imperial County Storm Response Update Wednesday, August 1st, 2012 The Office of Emergency Services reported this morning that the New River has overflowed and has spilled water in an area East of Brawley. The water overflow from the New River has covered a portion Cattle Call Park including the West Parking Lot in the Cattle Call Arena. This overflow into the New River was a result of the increased water that flowed into the drains due to the region’s July 30th storm. The City of Brawley has closed all access to pedestrians and vehicles to the Brawley Cattle Car Park. The Park will remain closed until the water recedes and has dried and the area is cleared by Imperial County Environmental Health. How soon the Park will reopen will depend on local weather conditions. County Officials are working closely with City of Brawley and the Imperial Irrigation District staff to monitor the water overflow and assess other areas that could potentially have water overflow. ROAD CLOSURES: Rutherford Road in Brawley is now open Larson Road between Forrester Rd and Austin Rd is now closed. Media Opportunity : Imperial County and City of Brawley officials will be available this afternoon, Wednesday 8/1/2012 for credentialed media that have questions related to New River overflow and the local efforts in response to this week’s storm. Was this a Permitted Agricultural Burn?

Status: In Progress

Date: Sunday 29 July 2012 9:15 AM

Address: calipatria, montgomery, haley

Description:

Are orchards required to request agricultural burn permit? It looked like a rather large burn that was burning on for a long time not like most burns on grass fields that go on and burn out rather quickly.

Highline Busted Open

Status: In Progress

Date: Monday 30 July 2012 13:50 PM

Address: calipatria, CA

Description:

Flooding from the Chocolate Mountains poured straight into the East Highline Canal. The Railroad and the Coachella Canal both have outlets to allow the rain to bypass over the canal and under the railroad to avoid being obstacles to the rain, however the East Highline is a direct obstacle. Who has jurisdiction on this issue? Looks like poor engineering.

Pesticide spraying

Status: Unresolved

Date: Tuesday 17 July 2012 6:00 AM

Address: Off of Evan Hewes, before Holtville, across from the Barbara Worth golf club

Description:

On Tuesday July 17, at approximately 6am a crop-duster sprayed the field directly across the street from me. Shortly after that my eye started bothering me, as though something were in it. I went to work, and by mid-day I had a migraine headache. I got home from work around 7pm. By 9:30pm my throat was very sore and my sinus passages were swollen. I felt hot and feverish all night even though the a/c was set at 75 degrees (that's cool for us.) I am rarely sick so this was unusual for me. I still felt very bad in the morning but after I went to work, started feeling better. By noon of the 18th I was back to my usual good health. I am convinced it was our proximity to the pesticide spraying.
