Description:
These type of messages get sent to the residents of Heber 5 times a year. Is this normal? Water is costly in this area and to have it not meet health standards is concerning.
Administrator Comment: Heber Public Utility District: The Heber Public Utility District’s Water Treatment Plant Improvement Project is scheduled to be completed by the end of August 2017. The Heber Public Utility District installed THM strippers that will ensure our water meets all state and federal requirements. The disinfection by-product that is over the maximum limit is a combination of trihalomethanes (TTHM) which are created when water is treated with chlorine, gets hot and sits in the pipes for a period of time. As you know, it gets hot in Heber in the summer, and this creates trihalomethanes in the water lines. The TTHM are measured quarterly and we must maintain 80 micrograms per liter over a one year (4 quarters) average. The newly installed THM stripper has already reduced our trihalomethanes by 40% at our water plant and we are confident that this trend will continue. The Heber Public Utility District strives to provide excellent service and quality water to our customers. We have invested capital into our water treatment plant that doubled our capacity and improved the water quality to meet state and federal standards.
