On February 16, 2016 at 2:35pm i was driving to the Environmental Justice Task Force Meeting. And immediatley noticed since Kestone road that their was a hudge cloud of smoke from an agricultual field. Nearby imperial Valley College and Preschool on campus. ***ADMIN: The DTSC Imperial CUPA has forwarded this complaint to APCD. APCD Response: We only had one field burning in that location which was Rose 37A located between Harris Rd and Highway 111 but this field is not close to IVC at all, it is closer to Brawley than IVC, and winds were coming from the SSE so no impact to school. This field was not designated as a special field so no Inspector was at the site. Under our Rules, signage is only required if the field is a “special field” and it requires the farmer to have persons available to caution or direct traffic in the event smoke may obscure vision on roads adjacent to the burn. This burn was authorized by APCD.
