Field Burning Near Heber

While driving from El Centro to Calexico I was able to spot in El Centro by Targer the smell of burnt. While driving towards Calexico I was able to see a field burning affecting El Centro residents and myself with the strong smell of burnt getting into my house and car. As I drove by 111 between el centro and heber i was able to see the burnt. Air quality is not that good for filed burning according to data from APCD website AQI index. DTSC Imperial CUPA has forwarded this complaint to APCD. APCD RESPONSE: This day was designated as a Burn Day. The air quality website indicated we had good and moderate air quality throughout the day. I know the complainant states that the AQI was bad, but it never reached the level of “unhealthy”. There were two control burns in the McCabe and Highway 111 area, winds were from the southwest which would have blown the smoke away from El Centro. We would really need more information from the complainant as he/she originally stated the smell was around Target which is several miles away from the control burns.
